I've just returned from a trip to Cyprus. The country is divided between North and South Cyprus which has a long history of conflict, and tensions sporadically explode between both sides (North Cyprus consists in the main of Cypriot Turks and Turkish settlers, whereas Greek Cypriots are based in South Cyprus). This Turkish military exercise took place on a Saturday morning when everyone was out, directly over the port of Kyrenia in North Cyprus. It took me by surprise, and for a moment I thought we were under attack! I love jets but this was utter madness - flying so low and close. The exercise went on for 15 minutes and turns out it's done on a regular basis. Turkish Army flexing their muscles whilst at the same time showing off. As one Turkish Cypriot said to me, 'Turkish Army big problem.'
