palayok is a clay pot used as the traditional food preparation container in the Philippines. Palayok is a Tagalog word; in other parts of the country, especially in Visayas, it is called a kulon; smaller-sized pots are referred to as anglit. Neighboring Indonesia and Malaysia refer to such vessel as a periuk.
"The palayok, the round-bottomed, wide-mouthed native cooking pot, survives as witness to the beginning of life in the Philippines. The word means pot, and it's generic Filipino term for all earthenware.
