In "And Still We Rise: A Novel about the Genocide in Bosnia," author Jordan Sher chronicles one family’s journey from the concentration camps of Prijedor, Bosnia in 1992, to their eventual resettlement in the U.S. After years of interviewing survivors, Sher relied on his findings to craft an inspiring story about those looking for balance in their lives after the devastating trauma of being targeted because of their ethnicity and religious background as Bosnian Muslims.
Sher joined us to share what led to the genocidal campaign by nationalist Serbs and how the aftermath of the early 1990s “ethnic cleansing” reverberates in Bosnia and Herzegovina today.
Sher was joined in conversation with Dr. Rebekah Klein-Pejšová, founding Director of the Human Rights Program at Purdue University and Co-editor of "Shofar: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Jewish Studies."
