China has banned the wildlife trade nationwide due to COVID-19, the coronavirus that originated in Wuhan. Like SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), which was traced to bats and civets - and MERS, Ebola and bird flu in recent times - the novel coronavirus that has killed thousands in China is believed to have come from wildlife - sold illegally at the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market.
Are humans doomed to more outbreaks of future diseases so long as we continue to live in close proximity with wildlife?
