FIFA President Sepp Blatter insisted on Thursday (21st March) that his governing body has not lost control of the debate about Qatar hosting the World Cup.

Sepp Blatter, FIFA President:
"I am not a prophet. I am not a prophet about what's happened. I have not used the words, they have been reproduced somewhere - I have only said it is Qatar that has to ask if something has changed, and then I have put a question mark about what will happen then when they will ask it. That's all. And now the rest is interpretation... but I am not a prophet to say what will happen. For the time being, they haven't asked. So let us be where we are, and let's work on the World Cup 2014 - there is enough to do for this competition - and then play the 2018, and then go to the '22. Thank you."

Sepp Blatter, FIFA President:
"The World Cup... FIFA's World Cup 2022 is a competition with 32 teams, 64 matches and has to be played in June-July. And this principle has never been put into question by the organiser - those that have been given the responsibility and the right to organise - it means Qatar, and has not been put into question by FIFA's Executive Committee. Therefore, it still stands. If there should be some move, the move must come from Qatar to the FIFA Executive Committee."

(On racism. Thursday was 'International Day on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination' where the United Nations invited top footballers and administrators to Geneva to discuss racism in sport).
"I will not disclose more for the time being because it is an important matter, and when we come to a solution at least it will be the embryo of a solution. But we must be really ready in action. You remember we have had in 2001 in Buenos Aires a two-day seminar against racism and discrimination, we have invited from all around the world organisations - they claim they are against racism, they are against discrimination, and what was the outcome? At the end the outcome was 'yes, we are against racism'. This is not enough, so we have to find actions and activities - and that we want to do, and we will present it at the Congress in two months"
