In Africa, the African penguin subpopulation is rapidly declining. The number of animals in this subpopulation has declined more than 60% over the last ~30 years.Once numbering 141,000 pairs, only 25,000 pairs remain (Birdlife 2013). If additional conservation actions are not taken, the number of animals in this subpopulation will continue to decrease at this alarming rate.
