Higher than normal EGTs randomly. I noticed a couple weeks back that I was getting higher than normal EGTs on my 01 24 valve cummins diesel. I didnt think anything of it then because I didnt see the glowshift egt gauge raising up that high when I started the truck after work again. Yesterday while I was in town waiting to turn onto the highway I looked over at the cummins egt gauge and saw that they were riding high around 500 degrees at idle with the truck in gear. My truck usually rides around 350-400 degrees with a load on the engine and the truck in gear. So to see the egt gauge at 500 degrees doesn't sit well with me. It gets me thinking that something is going on with an injector possibly. Maybe one of the injectors is sticking, or an injector body is cracked? I am going to keep an eye on it and see what it does over this next week. If the cummins high egt temp continues then it looks like i will be pulling out the injectors to look them over and clean them,. Hopefully the cummins injectors arent cracked or stuck and leaking fuel into the cylinder and washing it down. Time will tell and i'll keep you all updated!
