STORYLINE:
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife to Hamburg on Monday, as France and Germany's governments begin two days of talks.
The talks between the European Union's two biggest powers are aimed at shoring up relations, and will enable them to coordinate a European response following Hamas' attacks on Israel.
