The University of Lethbridge celebrates Black History Month 2023! This year's theme is Building a Culture of Authentic Black Inclusion.
As part of broadening the conversation on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion on campus, one of the key areas of focus centres on the various ways to address systemic barriers that exclude the stories and experiences of Black and Brown bodies within higher education.
In this session, Dr. Jerome Cranston will focus on the commitments and sacrifices that are required to de-center Eurocentric Whiteness in higher education. The session will explore the ways in which Eurocentric Whiteness is valourized and privileged in higher education. In this session, Dr. Cranston outlines what is needed if the pervasiveness, magnitudes and normalcy of White privilege, dominance and assumed superiority are to be dismantled so there might be greater racial justice within higher education.
