This video is a walking tour or city tour of Grenoble and a walk through the city towards the Bastille. In this, the fifth video from my tour around Provence, I spend another day in Grenoble, which is in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France, just north of the Provence region.
I start my walking tour of Grenoble City Centre in the place Victor Hugo and a statue to the composer Hector Berlioz before walking down to the Park Mistral. The park is named after Paul Mistral, a former mayor of Grenoble who died in 1932. In the park I discover some interesting war memorials, one of which was to the Chasseurs Alpins or Alpine Hunters, known as the Blue Devils. The park is dominated by the Perret Tower, but sadly closed. I did find a memorial to Paul Mistral, which was interesting and a cauldron, once used at the 1968 Olympic Games in Grenoble to keep the flame burning.
I walk further over the Isere River to the Saint Roche Cemetery where I find the graves of Paul Mistral and Xavier Jauvin. Next I cross the river and walk to the Church Saint Laurent, which is home to the archaeological museum, which was closed. However the casemates were next door, so I started to explore those, which was hard work. Grenoble City Centre is really lovely, with so much to see and do on a walking tour of Grenoble. I will return again to Grenoble and explore more of this city on another walking tour. As city walks go, this was one of my most enjoyable and I hope will be a good travel guide for you on your visit to Grenoble.
