In this video I am going to show you how my daughter and I have made natural food coloring from food itself in both powdered and liquid form. And I'm going to show you how it turns out in baking.
We use beets, carrots, spinach, orange, blueberries, purple cabbage and tumeric to make lots of tasty cupcakes without artificial colors.
As a mom of two, after choosing to not include any artificial dyes in our diet we've been having a pretty interesting time playing around and experimenting with natural food coloring: how to make it and how to bake with it.
And, as a home schooling mama this has turned out to be a really really amazing project. We've been learning so much about color, and chemistry.
Of course this is not a science lesson but if you are interested in creating your own natural food dyes and you're interested in why it's so difficult to utilize them in food I highly recommend embarking on this experimental journey yourself.
I found lots of videos here on YouTube showing how to make natural food colors, and I had much less success with guidance on how to bake with those colors. Now I know why!
Baking with natural ingredients, without artificial colors is not only fun, but healthy too.
I'd love to hear your comments below, and please let me know if you try anuy of these methods yourself.
