When talking about modern, intractable conflicts, there is one conflict which likely comes to mind more than any other, as being unparalleled with regard its length, as well as its level of controversy and divisiveness, and that is the Israel Palestine conflict. However, in order to adequately understand the history of this conflict one must understand its modern antecedents, namely the modern Zionist movement's aspiration to establish a Jewish nation state in the region of Palestine. It would be the outbreak of WW1 and eventual collapse of the Ottoman Empire which would set in motion a series of events that would make these aspirations a reality, placing the Zionist movement at odds with the native Arab inhabitants of the region...
