7. SOUNDBITE (Bosnian) Munira Subasic, chairwoman of Mothers of Srebrenica association:
"Our goal with this conference is to say that women are important, women deliver babies, women bring new life into this world. So, the role of women in the world should be given more importance, the voices of women should be heard. Us, women, should vote in favour of our women's rights. I must say that Srebrenica women have borne the biggest burden of this world, fighting for justice, during the war and after the war. I have to be proud that we have also managed to bring up our children without feelings of hate, or without feeling of revenge and I think the women of the world should learn from us about this. We brought our children into this world from love, we brought them up through life with love, and this is my message to all mothers of the world."

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Tineke Strik, Dutch member of European Parliament:
"I think that's an important one, that we start with recognising the international community, the Dutch government, everyone who was involved and everyone who has responsibility (for Srebrenica genocide), to make sure that it is recognised but also that we support the society in working towards the future, which is more peaceful and more stabile. Hopefully, really also entering the EU, so (working) towards integration with EU."

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Alice Wairimu Nderitu, UN special adviser on the prevention of genocide:

Thank you for not giving up. Thank you for the fact that they keep leading efforts to find those who were killed during genocide here, in Srebrenica."

STORYLINE:
As Bosnians prepare to commemorate the 27th anniversary on Monday of Europe’s only acknowledged genocide since World War II, the crucial role women have played in forging a global understanding of the 1995 massacre was also being recognized.
A memorial center dedicated to the massacre's more than 8,000 victims in Srebrenica was hosting an international conference of women discussing how they found strength to fight for justice after being driven from their homes and witnessing their loved ones being taken away to be killed.
More than 8,000 men and boys from the Bosniak ethnic group, which is made up primarily of Muslims, perished in 10 days of slaughter after the town was overrun by Bosnian Serb forces in the closing months of Bosnia’s 1992-95 fratricidal war.
Bosnian Serb soldiers plowed the victims’ bodies into hastily made mass graves, and then later dug up the sites with bulldozers and scattered the remains among other burial sites to hide the evidence of their crimes.
Bosniak women and children were packed onto buses and expelled from the town.
