Rumors suggest that Daisy Ridley's Rey Skywalker could feature prominently in a new Star Wars trilogy.

This speculation arises from Lucasfilm's decision to bring Simon Kinberg, known for his work on Star Wars Rebels, on board to helm a fresh chapter in the epic saga. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming trilogy will not extend the Skywalker Saga. Instead, it will introduce a completely new storyline with original characters, though familiar faces might appear in supporting roles.

Ridley's Rey, a pivotal figure in the sequel trilogy who faced significant criticism for the direction of those films, is reportedly set to play a central role in several forthcoming Star Wars projects. One such project is a standalone film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, announced during Star Wars Celebration in April 2023. While the project has yet to progress meaningfully, Ridley has openly discussed its development, though its current status remains unclear, similar to other pending Star Wars ventures.

This is where the rumor of a new trilogy centered around Rey gains traction. A source close to the franchise told The Hollywood Reporter: "Rey is the most valuable cinematic asset, in some ways maybe the only one, Star Wars has right now."

In essence, Rey appears to be Lucasfilm's best hope for advancing the franchise. With key characters like Luke, Leia, Han Solo, Kylo Ren, Anakin, and Obi-Wan Kenobi no longer alive in the current timeline, and others confined to prequel narratives on Disney+, the future of Star Wars may rest on her shoulders.
