As a child, violinist Esther Yoo’s favourite concerto was Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26. Yoo performs the work on her new Deutsche Grammophon album, which she calls “a beautiful melting pot of my past and present in terms of relationships, repertoire and the journey of finding my own voice.”
Recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra led by Music Director Vasily Petrenko, the album also features Barber’s Violin Concerto, Bruch’s Adagio Appassionato and Vieuxtemps’ Souvenir d'Amerique, Op. 17 “Yankee Doodle.”
Described by The Strad as “the model of a violin soloist in the modern age,” Yoo was the youngest prizewinner of the International Sibelius Violin Competition and one of the youngest ever prize-winners of the Queen Elisabeth Competition. In 2014, she became a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist and in 2018 was selected as one of Classic FM’s Top 30 Artists under 30. In 2020, WQXR named her one of twenty Artists to Watch.
