Leadership Mindset: A CEO's Moral Obligation to Employees with Patrick Dlamini
Patrick as a CEO yourself, I'd be really interested to ask this following question to you. In a recent global survey of CEOs, up to 80% of them said that they did not have the talent within their own organization to carry out and execute the strategy of that organization. Why do you think we got there?
That's a very interesting survey when it says the vast majority of organizations CEO's feel like their people are coming short of what is expected of them. I think the interesting question becomes, how did you get to that position as organizations? What is it that we as leaders did or that we missed out? Because we have a responsibility as leaders to continuously scan the environment, understand the nuances, understand the trends, decipher and decern the right messages and the implication to the organization. Because as leaders you also have that responsibility and duty to our organization and our employees. To make sure that we've continuously capacitate our employees to be continuously relevant. To be able to execute on the strategy of the organization.
But when we miss that it's unfortunate to them, the employees, are not ready and don't have what it takes. We've failed them as leaders.
But when we then are able to understand that we will then have a good chance of making sure that in our learning and development in terms of our HR practices we then continuously ensure that we do not mess up, miss out, and our employees continuously become relevant and capable of executing strategies accordingly. It's all about continuously monitoring and putting our radars out there to understand, what is the trend? What is going to come in and undo and move our cheese? So that's the responsibility that we have. And I do strongly feel that we cannot dare fail our employees when it comes to that.
Absolutely. I like to say a leader should be looking out towards the horizon instead of looking down in the weeds.
Absolutely! I couldn't have put it better actually, Jim.
Thank you, Patrick, for your thoughts. Your insights are awesome.
