*2023 Kawasaki KX450SR Top Speed Test!*
-Sprocket size Front/Rear = OEM 13T/50T.
-Rear tire size 110mm - 18” on Tusk Impact 18” wheel set
(OEM Rear Tire = 120 - 19”)
-This Top speed run was done using the OEM sprocket sizes/gearing, but a slightly smaller diameter 18” rear wheel/tire set up!
Still hit 83MPH with a smaller rear tire so I could see this bike easily hitting 85MPH with the OEM 19” rear tire set up and possibly a little more!
-*ALSO WENT BACK TO THE OEM SR ECU RUNNING THE WHITE DFI COUPLER, AND THE ORIGINAL REAR NUMBER PLATES/SIDE PANELS SO THIS IS A GREAT IDEA OF WHAT YOU GET OUT OF THE BOX!*
[I had it set up with a Vortex ECU with aftermarket side panels with the air box opening on the left side trimmed/cut out a bit bigger to be able to pull more air flow through the intake a bit better in the last couple videos and just wanted to be clear on how the bike was set up for this TOP SPEED TEST!]
*MINI REVIEW AND THOUGHTS ON THE SR!*
-I have owned dozens and dozens of different machines over the 30 years I’ve been riding and have ridden almost everything you can think of as far as powersports/Offroad, Raced 450cc ATV Motocross, etc, etc, etc, and I have to say that this Kawasaki Special Racer is the most exciting/nicest bike out of the box I’ve experienced to date and has enough power to keep a veteran rider constantly smiling and never getting bored which can happen quick since I have a 2006 CR500AF Big Bore 2 stroke all of 205lbs wet to rip as well, I can have just as much fun on this Factory Edition and ride it exactly how I want so no regrets and I would HIGHLY recommend giving a KX450SR a chance! It’s not a perfect do it all bike in stock form but with a few minor upgrades it can be, the biggest thing with these bikes is getting a universal electric cooling fan kit with the controller and temp sensor and mount the fan/sensor to the left side radiator and mount a small universal coolant reservoir/tank somewhere so the bike stays cool and your not topping off the coolant in the radiators every time you want to ride… The fan kits are inexpensive, easy to mount and get working, and pay for themselves the first couple rides when your not stopping every 15 minutes to let it cool down, loosing coolant out of the overflow, less time riding, etc where with an E-fan kit you can just keep riding while everyone else without a cooling fan has to sit and wait for their bikes to stop overheating. I couldn’t be happier with this bike and it really does handle ANYTHING effortlessly and is a weapon on the trails or track! I also recommend replacing the rear 250mm brake rotor with a 240mm rear rotor for a KX450X as the 250mm is way too much and the rear tire is either free spinning or completely LOCKED UP just bumping the brake pedal and there is no in between or slipping the rear brakes. With the 240mm rotor the rear tire will still lock up the same as the 250mm but you can actually modulate the brake to slow down or with a little more pressure it locks up solid to set yourself up for certain corners, etc with way more control. I like an 18” rear wheel/tire for off-road for the extra width and sidewall but the stock 19” is amazing as well so that’s a matter of preference. The Showa suspension is absolutely incredible for me and really favors riders who like to push it hard yet it still feels plenty plush/comfortable for me to ride a bit slower when necessary. The bike is a very predictable and light feeling, corners awesome and is just easy to ride as long as you mind the throttle, my 2022 KX450 feels anemic compared to this 23’ Factory edition and that’s saying something if you seen my videos of the 2022 KX450 build I did last year using a brand new standard MX model. I’ve heard of other people complaining about the suspension on slower speed bumpy terrain with sharp edges not feeling the best for them but that is not the case for me at all and I really prefer the feel of the 2023 Showa Suspension on this bike. I am roughly 175-180lbs and the bike actually just works perfectly for me on the factory Suspension settings so I literally haven’t had to touch a clicker or adjust a thing suspension wise.
Basically all I did was take what I learned from owning the 2022 KX450 for a year and applied that to the Factory Edition bike and now I have one that can handle anything and keeps me smiling with that boost in HP’s and way more aggressive running motor with amazing bottom end power for lugging compared to the standard 450 with eye watering mid and top end! I may throw on a 49T rear sprocket and the 19” rear tire to do another top speed run with slightly taller gearing to see if I can get closer to the 90MPH mark!!
