The announcement of the potential deal came just hours after Israel ordered at least 100,000 Palestinians to leave Rafah.
Many of those who now find themselves displaced yet again, are heading towards Khan Younis and Deir el-Balah.
But those two cities have already been almost completely destroyed.
Al Jazeera’s Hind al Khoudary is in Khan Younis, following the movement of those fleeing from southern Gaza.
Alexandra Saieh is the head of humanitarian policy and advocacy with Save the Children International.
She's concerned that the Israeli attacks in Rafah will lead to a complete collapse of the humanitarian aid response.
