Short winter days are a great time to experience Orkney at its wildest as the North Sea and Atlantic Ocean batter the coastline. There's plenty of wildlife around to enjoy too. At this time of year, Orkney provides an internationally important home to divers, grebes and seaducks that spend the winter in places like Scapa Flow and the Sounds around Wyre. You'll also find a huge variety of ducks and geese on the freshwater lochs and in sheltered sea areas. While the cliffs that were so full of seabirds in summer, still provide homes for fulmars and you can watch them soar on the strong winter winds.
Take a look for yourself to discover wild Orkney in winter.
