SOI Foundation, Blue Futures Pathways
Blue Futures Pathways (BFP) is a program led by the SOI Foundation that connects youth across Canada with education, employment, and funding opportunities to inspire and support them in developing successful careers in the Sustainable Blue Economy (SBE). BFP has created two virtual education resources. Our Blue Future comprises six learning modules introducing individuals to the SBE. Students can explore how ice, ocean, fresh water, and sewage play a role in the Sustainable Blue Economy through a lens of traditional knowledge and western science. The second resource is a series of 10 bilingual videos introducing scientists working in the SBE and detailing their career pathways. This workshop will virtually introduce educators to what is the Sustainable Blue Economy, the opportunities that exist within it, and the BFP learning resources available. At the end of the workshop, the educators will be provided with a full inquiry guide that they can use with their class as they go through all 10 videos and a link to access to the free BFP learning modules for their students. Finally, this workshop will discuss the virtual sessions that the BFP team can provide directly to educator classrooms during the fall term (2022).
