Neglecting monthly and annual septic maintenance is a major factor in drain field issues. Monthly use of high-quality septic bacteria packets, like Septi-Flow Bacteria Plus, and an annual 1-2 gallon dose of Septic-Flow Shock keep your system running smoothly. Contrary to common belief, baker's yeast is ineffective as it doesn't produce the necessary enzymes to decompose toilet paper, grease, and oils.
THE IMPACT OF WATER SOFTENERS ON SEPTIC SYSTEMS
Home water softeners, which add excessive sodium to septic drainfields, can be problematic. To mitigate this, reroute your water softener's discharge to a separate French drain. After this adjustment, pump your septic tank and apply 2 gallons of Septi-Flow Shock to the tank or Distribution Box. Wait two weeks before adding another 2 gallons to the drain field. Improvement in flow should be noticeable in 3-5 weeks. Continue with 2-4 gallons every three months for optimal performance.
HOW TO IDENTIFYING SODIUM BUILDUP IN SEPTIC SYSTEMS?
Determining if sodium buildup is affecting your septic field can be challenging. Sodium naturally accumulates from detergents, soaps, and water softeners. Regularly adding a gallon of Septi-Flow and high-quality bacterial packets annually is a preventative measure.
