Johannesburg residents will have to brace themselves for a higher cost of living this financial year. Counsellor Geoffrey Makhubo announced the city's record 47.1 billion rand budget on Tuesday. He said property rates will go up by 5 percent, electricity tariffs will increase by by 7.3 percent and refuse removal will rise by 6 percent. The city says it's key priorities include financial sustainability and building a safer city.
