In celebration of the National Arts Month 2021, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through the Provincial Tourism Office showcased the innate talent of local artists of the province through a painting contest.
This year’s celebration takes on the theme “Alab-sining, Alay-sigla” as the Provincial Government continues to provide opportunities for harnessing our local artists’ creative energies in uplifting the nation’s spirit amid the pandemic.
20 artists all over Lanao del Norte submitted their entries solely inspired with the theme “Culture and the Arts of Lanao del Norte” before February 24, 2021. All the artworks were displayed at the Capitol Building Lobby and were judged by three of the most renowned artists of Region X today, February 26, 2021.
Ms. Alerma Grace Yorong, the OIC- Provincial Tourism Officer, invited Mr. Christopher L. Gomez, a full-time artist, joined by Mr. Decius ‘Yoyong’ Esmedalla, the Supervising Tourism Operations Officer of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region X, and Mr. Ryan A. Carreon, also a full-time artist from Cagayan de Oro City, to be the Board of Judges of the said event.
Winning First Place for the Category A/Senior Division (17 years old and above) was “DANCING BEAUTY” by GiraldEgotColorada fromLanipao, Lala. Second Place was “THE BEAUTY AND BOUNTY OF LANAO DEL NORTE” by Kirby O. Lenogon from Maigo and Third Place was “THE TRUE BEAUTY OF LANAO DEL NORTE” by Edilbeto B. Sayson Jr. from Lapinig, Kapatagan. The artwork “THE RADIANT DANCE OF SAGAYAN” by Sean Jericho P. Suerto from Maranding, Lala won first place for the Category B/Junior Division(16 years old and below).
The winners for Category A will receive trophies, with certificates and cash prizes worth Php 20,000, Php 15,000, and Php 10,000 for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively, while the winner for the Category B will take home Php 10,000.
Governor Imelda “Angging” Quibranza-Dimaporo was very delighted to see the different artworks of various artists from Lanao del Norte and hoped that the people will continue to conserve, promote and popularize Lanao del Norte’s culture and traditions through art. PIO-LDN
