In the previous tutorial, Nancy showed how to do the sashings and cornerstones for the Sunset Over Dublin quilt. In this tutorial, she will show how to do the on-point setting with the blocks and include the setting and corner triangles. The book provides great instructions to put them all together.
Nancy loves to use a directional fabric for the setting triangles and corner triangles. She starts with a large square and cuts it on the diagonal twice for the setting triangles. For the corner triangles, she cuts two small squares. Each square will be cut individually. One square will be cut from the top left to the bottom right. The other square will be cut in the opposite direction; cut from the bottom left to the top right. Nancy shows which one will go in each corner.
Add the corner and setting triangles when sewing the rows together. Watch which way the directional fabric is going to help keep it in the right direction. Nancy shares some tips on finding the centers of the sashings to sew with the corner triangles. After sewing the corner triangle and sashing together, press the seam toward the sashing. Continue to press toward the sashing with each row sewn together. The cornerstone squares will stick out but Nancy will show how to deal with them when the border is put on.
