16 teams are set and ready to go in a Sunday brawl that will award three spots to DreamHack Open Stockholm, and thus a chance at qualifying for the next major in Cluj-Napoca.
The European pre-qualifiers for DreamHack Open Stockholm (the event which will determine the eight "Challengers" at the next major) introduced an ambitious format with both qualifiers beginning with a total of 512 teams competing in each open stage.
After HellRaisers and CPH Wolves managed to survive the gruelling first bracket and advance to DreamHack Open Stockholm, eight teams who placed highest in the first pre-qualifier (as well as a lower bracket placement tournament) automatically moved forward to the closed qualifier.
On Saturday, the open stage of the second pre-qualifier finished, giving us eight more teams who moved forward to the closed stage. The 16 teams for the European pre-qualifier #2 are therefore:
dignitas
PENTA
SK Gaming
Torpedo
Reason
k1ck
Dobry Gaming
London Conspiracy
Night Raid
MIXCAT
x6tence
OverGaming
LDLC Blue
Space Soldiers
AWTR
Worst Players
The closed stage will use the exact same format as the first pre-qualifier, meaning a single elimination bracket with best-of-three matches. Since this is the final pre-qualifier however, losing teams in the Round of 16 will not be playing a best-of-one placement tournament.
Additionally, since the second European pre-qualifier hands out three spots instead of two to DreamHack Open Stockholm, it is also assumed a third place match will be played between the two semifinal losers to determine the final spot.
However, since DreamHack have not released an official schedule this time, the exact structure and timing of the later portion of the bracket is uncertain.
All Round of 16 matches begin at promptly 12:00, Sunday September 13th and will play out as best-of-three matches. Keep your eyes peeled to the Hot Matches panel on HLTV.org for the next set of matches to be added after the Round of 16.
