The Exter is based on the Grand i10 Nios but it is more expensive than it. Here is why. First its bigger and tougher. Sure the wheelbase is the same but in terms of length and height it is bigger. The suspension too has been beefed up to deal with bad roads better. Also it has more ground clearance, all of which add to the cost and make it heavier. Second, it is packing in more safety features like 6 airbags as standard. The base version also gives you the option of adding ESP and Hill Hold if you would like it. Hyundai say they have made the platform better when it comes to accidents. The Exter is also packing in way more features in the top spec variants. There is a digital dashboard for the driver's instruments cluster, there's a sunroof and there's a dash cam. All right. But when it comes to the engine, it's shared with the Nios but the AMT is getting paddle shifters which gives you a greater sense of control and excitement.
