Designers strive to fill up the world with beautiful environments, packaging, products and landscapes. These can be defined as aesthetic experiences wherein designers use the study of beauty to create pleasurable experiences for humans to interact with items and spaces.
Join Prasad Boradkar, a professor emeritus of industrial design at Arizona State University, as he discusses one of the three primary goals of design: beauty.
When designers create aesthetic experiences, they must focus on the five senses: sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. For example, picture a car or a movie theater. Driving a car needs to be comfortable with a seat that’s the right, shape, form, color and texture as well as an easy to hold and steer wheel. Seeing a movie in a theater needs the right environment, seating, graphics, lighting and more.
