Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says Chinese Ambassador to Australia Xiao Qian’s address at the National Press Club on Wednesday came “at a pretty incendiary time for China and the West”.
“With the Chinese military exercises in the Taiwan Strait coming after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan,” Mr Clennell said.
“The address also came at a time when there are concerns China might establish a military base on the Solomon Islands.”
