Bhupalpally or Bhupalpalle is the biggest industrial area in the constituency. It is covered with coal mines. Located on Warangal-Kaleshwaram-Sironcha highway, Bhupalpalle has been witnessing rapid growth. It has a huge chunk of forest area and houses Kakatiya Thermal Power Project (KTPP) with 1,100 MW capacity in two stages. Bhupalpalle Assembly constituency is one among the 12 constituencies in erstwhile Warangal district and part of Warangal Lok Sabha constituency. Bhupalpalle has become the district headquarters for the newly created Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.
Bhupalpalle, Mogullapalle, Chityal, Ghanpur (Mulgu), Regonda and Shayampet mandals are part of the constituency.
Demography
As per the estimates of 2011 census, out of total 3,23,775 population, 86.91 per cent are rural and 13.09 per cent are urban population. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes ratio is 20.26 per cent to 5.1 per cent respectively out of total population.
Political history
Bhupalpalle Assembly constituency was created in 2009 as part of reorganisation of constituencies by dissolving Shyampet constituency. Congress won Shayampet seat four times, while TDP, BJP and Janata Party won the seat one time each. In 2009, Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy of Congress won the seat by defeating TRS candidate S Madhusudhana Chary. As TDP candidate, Madhusudhana Chary secured Shyampet constituency in 1994. After winning the seat in 2014, Madhusudhana Chary went on to become the Speaker of Telangana Legislative Assembly.
2014 election
TRS nominee Madhusudhana Chary Sirikonda defeated his closest rival Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy of Congress by a margin of 7,214 votes. Out of the total polled votes of 1,89,262, Madhusudhana Chary Sirikonda received 65,113 votes and Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy, the first runner-up, received 57,899 votes. BJP candidate Gandra Satyanarayana Rao was second runner-up. He was able to get 57,530 votes.
