Barcelona based stylist Paul Gehring presents his latest collection "La Movida" for the upcoming season. This time, inspiration comes straight from the spirit of the "movida madrileña" - a powerful youth movement originated by the fundamentally changing spanish society during the post Franco period, which endured until the late eighties. The main impulses for this era relied on the so-called "alternative" or "underground" scenes, whose intensive and remarkable nightlife spread amongst Madrid´s youth causing an unusual impact. Personages like Pedro Almodovar or Alaska, as well as bands like Nacho Pop, Los Secretos and Radio Futura defined this movement´s particular image and finally became the icons of "la movida". Not only did they assimilate the british punk movement in a provocative manner, but also took the warholian universe and the emerging "new wave" trends and established the unique "underground" style of post modern Madrid. Within this process, a range of different looks were created which represented a visionary community reflecting contemporary Spain. Paul Gehring has dedicated his new collection to the eighties movement in Spain. According to Paul, "LA MOVIDA continues the facination of the same spirit which drove Spain towards freedom and turned it into a democracy. Celebrating 'la movida' now means to cherish a regained freedom, without which Spain as we know it today could hardly exist.
