In a historic move, the Lok Sabha passed the Women's Reservation Bill with an impressive 454-2 majority. This marked the inaugural vote on the bill in the Lok Sabha. It received overwhelming support, with only 2 members of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen opposing it. Their opposition stemmed from advocating for a distinct quota for Muslim and OBC women within the broader reservation framework. The bill is now set for consideration in the Rajya Sabha, with 14 prominent BJP women MPs and leaders taking part. Over seven hours have been allotted for this significant discussion.
