The Center for the Study of Europe's October speaker series exploring Brexit and the Future of the UK continued on Friday, October 22, with a talk by T. G. Otte, Professor of Diplomatic History in the School of History at the University of East Anglia. Otte's talk — ‘Empire 2.0’, ‘Global Britain’ ‘Little England’?: Brexit, Britain’s International Role and the ‘English Question’ — centered around foreign policy questions and Britain's place in the world.
Thomas Otte is Professor of Diplomatic History at the University of East Anglia. He is an expert on great power politics from 1500 to 2000. He has published some twenty books, including July Crisis: The World’s Descent into War, Summer 1914 (Cambridge UP, 2014) (Prose Merit Award European History 2015, Lowy Institute Books of the Year 2014) and Statesman of Europe: The Life of Sir Edward Grey (Allen Lane, 2020) (New Statesman Book of the Year in History category). He is currently a Leverhulme Major Research Fellow, and is completing a book on British foreign policy from 1650 to present. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and an elected member of the Society’s Council. He has been an adviser to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
