The US Open MTB was Elo’s first national-level race, first time in Cat1, first time flying to a race, first time seeding, first time riding East of Montana, first time packing in a bike bag, first time on track with so many pro riders - wow!
Overall, the US Open MTB was a great experience for Elo. He practiced hard, seeded in 5th, and finished just off the podium in 6th for M12U. He loved the track, but as the smallest and lightest rider in his group, he struggled to generate and maintain pace on the flatter sections of the track. His time was 3:31.65s. For next season, we’ll work on core strength and pumping in addition to the usual shred skills.
Congrats to Mack Manietta on the win with a crazy fast time. Elo has been riding with Mack for years. Cat1 winners received a new BoXXer from RockShox!
Thanks to Sweetlines Gravity Team for the awesome season, to his coaches Kat Sweet and Scott Kemp, to Samox Cranks, and to the best sponsors ever: Norco Bicycles, Ride Bicycles, Rockshox, SRAM MTB, DHaRCO clothing, and Deity Components. Thanks Kris Christensen for the pro tips this weekend, and to Julia, Claire, and Nory for letting Elo tag along. Been a great season!
