A few years ago Sulaiman got by in Indonesia’s Riau province through casual labor, even resorting to illegal logging when times were hard. Today he employs 40 people supplying cocopeat – potting soil made from coconut husks – to seven nurseries owned by APRIL subsidiary RAPP.
He was given support from the company to set up his business as part of a program to help entrepreneurs provide economic opportunities to the local community.
The program is part of APRIL’s commitment that its activities should be good for the community, good for the country, good for the climate, and only then can they be good for the company.
