In the 1980s, the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh witnessed a fierce rivalry between two prominent gangsters: Pandit Harishankar Tiwari and Thakur Veerendra Shahi. However, Shahi was assassinated in the '90s, while Tiwari transitioned into politics. Tiwari, based in Gorakhpur, had two associates in Gazipur district: Makanu Singh and Sadhu Singh, both were friend of Mukhtar Ansari. Meanwhile, after Shahi's demise, Don Brijesh Singh emerged as a hero among the Thakurs, initially collaborating with the Sahib Singh gang in Varanasi. This led to clashes between the Makanu and Sahib Singh gangs over government contracts in Purvanchal. Brijesh Singh, a resident of Varanasi, was deeply affected by his father Ravindra Nath Singh's murder in a land dispute in 1984. Seeking revenge. In the meantime, Makanu Singh's gang, to which Mukhtar Ansari belonged, was involved in various criminal activities.
