Todays vlog is about exploring some known and some unknown places of Meghalaya. India is home to the Cleanest Village in Asia i.e Mawlynnong Village. It lies in the East Khasi Hills district of the Meghalaya state. The village is so beautiful makes you wonder that are you really in India. We walked around the village and saw the beauty of the village which left us mesmerized. Next we headed to Riwai to see single decker living root bridge which is 8 kms away from the village. It is one of the natural wonders of Meghalaya and among the best places to visit in Mawlynnong. Also known as Jingmaham Living Root Bridge, this single decker bridge in Riwai is a 300 years old manmade bridge built across a stream by intertwining the aerial roots of Rubber trees around a Betel tree trunk. It’s made of real roots and one can cross river and go to other side. Mawlynnong also boasts of having a route which directly connects it to the other side of Bangladesh.
Next it was time to head to Shnongpdeng known for one of the most beautiful and cleanest river in Meghalaya - Umngot river, Dawki. The water of the river is absolutely crystal clear & one can easily see the bottom of the river. We spent the day by camping near Umngot river, did boating in Umngot river. There is one hanging bridge next to the river from where you can have the view of the riverbed. Next morning it was time to say goodbye to this place and head to visit Krangsuri waterfall. Krang Suri is one of the most popular, beautiful and exotic waterfalls present in the state of Meghalaya. It is located about 30 kms from Jowai in the district of West Jaintia Hills. It is known for being located within the mountains, which can also be seen from afar. To reach the waterfall the tourists must walk alongside the border of the mountains, which is a very narrow yet slippery path. This makes the trip to the Krang Suri waterfall even more thrilling as you will be able to see the steep of the mountains and the height of the mountain. You can also take a dip in the cool blue waters of the fall. Post our session at the waterfall it was time to head to Shillong. In the evening we decided to check out the famous market of Shillong, Police Bazaar. This market was a heaven for people like me as it was surrounded by so many food stalls, BBQ stalls, local eatery and so much more! But we headed to the Café Trattoria which serves some of the best authentic Khasi food. Located right in the middle of the frenetic Police Bazar, Trattoria enjoys a cult following among the locals who swear by its flavours. So brave the crowd and order some local hot favourites like Jadoh (red rice and pork, cooked together with ginger, onions and turmeric), Doh Iong (pork with black sesame curry) and Doh Khleh (pork salad). As it is evident, pork dishes are the most popular around here; but they also serve select vegetarian and chicken items. Last but not the least before bidding goodbye to this beautiful state of Meghalaya we halted to check out the magnificent Umiam Lake on our way to Guwahati from Shillong. Umiam Lake (locally known as Dam sait) is a reservoir in the hills 15 kms north of Shillong. It was created by damming the Umiam River in the early 1960s. So guys watch the full video and don’t forget to plan a visit Meghalaya to explore this type of beauty first hand.
