Air Warrior, *CAPT DEEPAK SATHE*,
pilot of ill- fated Air India flight (IX-1344)
lost his life in the crash,
along with *First Officer Akhilesh Kumar* today.
Capt Sathe was a *former Air Force fighter Pilot*,
commissioned into service in 1981
and *served in the forces for 22 years*.
He retired in 2003 as Squadron Leader
and moved to commercial flying.
He was really the best.
He topped both the defence academies, was awarded
*President Gold Medal*
in the 58th Course *National Defence Academy*
and Sword of honor in 127th PC Air Force Academy.
