The window for Greece to reach a deal with its creditors and keep the country from bankruptcy is about to close.
A summit of all EU members has been cancelled,... in order for eurozone talks on a third bailout to continue Sunday,... after an agreement was delayed the day before.
Kwon Soa has this report.
It′s a busy weekend for eurozone finance ministers,... who are putting their heads together in Brussels to decide the fate of crisis-hit Greece.
After more than eight hours of talks on Saturday,... with Finland refusing any more funding for Athens... and Germany suggesting a temporary Grexit of five years,... there were no breakthroughs.
″We haven′t concluded our discussions, so we will continue at eleven. It is still very difficult but work is still in progress. That′s all I can say.″
The Eurogroup chairman also focused his remarks on ″the issue of credibility and trust.″
In fact, many of the other 18 eurozone members have expressed skepticism about Greece′s new proposal for an 80-billion-euro bailout.
The reform plan put forward by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras includes tax hikes, raising the retirement age and cutting defense spending.
While the Greek parliament backed the new proposals, which are similar to the ones Greeks rejected in a referendum just a week before, many Greeks are demonstrating against it.
″It keeps all the tax burdens, unbearable burdens, that existed before, which are harmful to the economy and the society, and it adds even more.″
Time is running out for Greece,... as the crisis is taking a toll on its people.
Banks have been shuttered for two weeks now... and the country is just a week ahead of another crucial deadline to repay the European Central Bank.
