Water chestnuts aren’t really nuts. They’re aquatic vegetables. The part that we eat is called the corm. The corm is an enlarged underground plant stem that stores the plant’s nutrients.
When it’s the fall season, most of the Asian supermarket over here in Central California, USA will have fresh water chestnuts for sale. They’re usually sold by the pound. Sometimes it’s already nicely package in the produce section of the store. When choosing fresh water chestnuts, choose the ones that doesn’t have any sign of mold spots.
I like eating fresh water chestnuts. They’re crispy, sweet and nutty in flavor. The canned ones aren’t really flavorful. But it’s still good.
Have a nice day!
