In this episode of restore this I take on a dual restoration of two 100+ year old monkey wrenches! Vintage tools! Old American steel! I got these in a bunch of tools after my father passed away. My goal is to bring them to a mirror shine. No small task considering the rust, scratches, gouges, machining marks, hammer dents and casting marks that cover these wrenches.
The first wrench is a 14" "Perfect Handle" monkey wrench that was manufactured by H.D. Smith Co. of Plantsville Connecticut some time in the mid 20s. This one is going to take the most work of the two. It has been hammered and abused. It's bent in two spots and it's missing both of its handle panels.
The second wrench is a 6.5" Girard Wrench Mfg. Co. monkey wrench manufactured in the early 1900s in Girard PA. The Girard Wrench Co. factory suffered a fire in 1902 and was not rebuilt.
Watch as I try to fulfill my quest to make these antique wrenches shine better than new!
