CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The Metropolitan Sewer District is dealing with the fallout from a state decision denying $35 million dollars for storm cleanup.
A huge rainfall in late August damaged two-thousand properties in our area. MSD applied for state aid, which was denied.
The MSD director told City Council on Dec. 6 that the state will not cover cleanup costs to private property, because there was no health hazard. "We object to that. We believe the debris was removed because it was contaminated. You can't leave this debris in homes. It would have created some health emergency problems."
Here's the catch, the director says a federal court decree requires MSD to do the cleanup and requires the state to pay. But since the state won't do it, MSD rate payers are on the hook for the costs.
