Today on our 2015 Ford F-150, we'll be installing the Glacier V-Bar Snow Tire Chains with Cam Tighteners, part number PWH2828SC. Now I just want to point out the tire size on our F-150 that we have here today is 265/70 R17. If you have a different tire size equipped on your F-150, you may want to refer to our application guide on our website as these tire chains may not work for you. Here's our chains already laid out on the ground here. As you can see, there is a ladder pattern going across by the horizontal bars that go across the tread of our tires. You can see why they call it ladder pattern because it looks like the rungs or the steps on a ladder. Now on the individual rungs of the chain here, you can see the V-bar.
These will provide a superior traction in ice and very good traction in deep snow. They give you something to bite into there so you don't have to worry about getting stuck quite as much. On the outside edge of our chain here, you can see our cam tensioners, which when twisted like this, brings the chain closer together. That will help relieve all the slack in it and make sure we have a nice, snug fit around our tire. One thing I would like to point out, the part that touches the tread of the tire here is the flat side of our crossbars here. You don't want to have this side with the hook touching the tire because you could risk causing a puncture.
Also, these tensioners need to be on the outside edge of the tire. They aren't designed to work on the inside edge. We'll grab our chain, drape it over our tire here and try to keep it as evenly spaced across the sidewall as we can, just like so. The general rule of thumb is you want to have this first rung here down as far tucked in underneath the tire as you can. As you can see here, I need to pull a little of it back to do that. Otherwise, we'll have too much slack underneath the tire when we go to make our connection.
We'll work it back. Right about there is about perfect. We can now pull forward a little bit and make our connection. We'll now take the hook here on our inside edge and go down about as far up as we can go on our chain. Right now I'm on the third link. The general rule of thumb of these tired chains is you want to be plus or minus one of where you're at on the inside edge, so if you're on the third link, you're going to be on the second one on the outside or the fourth one or right there on the third, if possible.
You don't want to be anywhere else than that. We'll start there and see where we end up. I'm trying the fourth link and it looks like it will be too tight, so I'll go back to the third link. It goes all the way down, so that's good. I'll take my tensioner here, fold it back, take this link here, which locks into place and loop it in there. Now we can take the provided tensioning tool for our cams. It looks like a little flat-hear screwdriver almost. We can stick it in our chain tensioners or cams and twist them to take the excess slack out. I want to get as many of these as we can on the initial tightening. I got three of the four on it right now so at this point, we're pretty good. Now we want to drive forward about 40 feet and double check the tension on the chains again. We may be able to get the fourth cam to lock down in the tightened position. If everything is good there, we're ready to hit the road and have safe travels. That completes our installation of the Glacier V-Bar Snow Tire Chains with Cam Tighteners, part number PWH2828SC on our 2015 Ford F-150.
