The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs.
They reside against back muscles in the upper abdominal cavity.
They sit opposite each other on either side of the spine.
They extract waste from blood, balance body fluids, form urine.
Function of kidney
Some important functions of kidneys are waste excretion from blood.
The kidney filter out toxins, excess salts, urea.
Water level balancing in body.
They react to changes in the body’s water level throughout the day.
As water intake decreases the kidney leave water in the body instead of helping excrete it.
Blood pressure regulation: Kidneys regulate blood pressure by secreting hormones and keeping balance of water and salt in the blood.
When the kidneys don’t get enough oxygen they produce hormones ( erythropoietin )
This stimulates bone marrow to produce more oxygen-carrying red blood cells.
Food we eat can either increase the acid in out body or neutralize it.
Kidney keep healthy balance of chemicals in the body.
