This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. What did early Americans think of gun laws? Robert J. Spitzer explains the history of the relationship between guns and regulations.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxCortland, where x = independently organized TED event.
We are incredibly excited to have a suite of 14 inspired and passionate speakers for TEDxCortland 2014. Hailing from Cortland, Ithaca, Auburn, and as far as Maryland, our speakers have experiences as varied as:
Playing in the NFL Pro Bowl
Contributing to PBS's The Ivory Tower
Creating music alongside U2 and Sting
Writing a novel at age 14
We are pleased to share with you our TEDxCortland 2014 Speakers:

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
