Just like they pioneered the “D-Pad” Nintendo also invented the much less glamorous “Video Game Movie” with Super Mario Brothers… Then they spent the next 25 years trying to pretend like it never happened… Long story short: Nintendo hated the Mario movie, it was a massive flop, and (Pokemon aside) it scared them away from releasing another movie on the big screen for a quarter of a century… However, time heals all wounds because the big N has since returned to the world of cinema… But if things had panned out just a little bit differently, it could have happened much sooner.
