High alkalinity in your hot tub can lead to high pH. Plus if your alkalinity is off, you'll never get the pH levels correct. High pH and alkalinity can render shock and sanitizer ineffective, result in cloudy water, and cause scale buildup.

Alkalinity measures your water's ability to neutralize acid, whereas pH measures how acidic or alkaline your water is. So they are related and products that affect one, will affect the other. But they are altogether different too!
