Puppies in a litter develop close bonds with each other, as they spend so much time together--sleeping, playing, etc. They can go from resting to play-fighting in an instant, as they learn social cues and acceptable limits from each other. Play fights with their littermates allows them to develop their hunting and defense skills. They also learn the difference between a playful nip and a real bite, which is an important part of training.
