Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!
Lynn and I went down to the city last night to see Suzanne Vega at City Winery’s new location. Suzanne was great and it was a treat to see her with some additional personnel on stage with her. Notably, her daughter, Ruby Froom on background vocals and her original and longtime bassist, Mike Visceglia… on bass. The old City Winery was nice, but not terribly large, so they would try to squeeze 250 people into a 150 person capacity venue. When seated, you were literally elbow to elbow and back to back with your fellow audience members. The new venue is beautiful and much more spacious. The sound is much better as well. However, the same seating philosophy applies - about 50% + over capacity. Service wasn’t good either (and we’re pretty easy… not terribly fussy). We parked a bit uptown (45th St) and thought we’d kill some time and try walking to the venue… about 30 blocks. I think we made it about 5 before hailing a cab. The cold was painful and the wind was vicious. We both nearly got blown off the curb and into the street a couple of times. Lynn’s hair looked awesome when we got there 😂
