Athletes were surprised when Madhya Pradesh sports minister Jeetu Patwari climbed a 40-feet rock climbing wall at the Barkatullah University, in just under two minutes, on December 4. Patwari made the climb in order to promote the sport, he also encouraged Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju and others to promote the sport in a similar fashion. He further added, ‘Being a sports minister, I think I should set an example for others that honest efforts are a must to gain success in life. I had never climbed such a sports wall in my life before today.’ Rock climbing is being promoted in the country as it is included in the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
