In Calgary, United Conservative Party Leader Danielle Smith marks the start of the provincial election campaign with a promise to reduce income taxes. She promises to create a new bracket for income under $60,000, index all tax brackets to inflation and pass a bill mandating that any increase to personal or business taxes be approved by a provincial referendum. Following the announcement, Smith answers questions from reporters. She is joined by Matt Jones, UCP candidate for Calgary-South East. Voters will cast their ballots for the provincial election on May 29.
